The Society of Biblical Literature is the oldest and largest international scholarly membership organization in the field of biblical studies. Founded in 1880, the Society has grown to over 8,500 international members including teachers, students, religious leaders and individuals from all walks of life who share a mutual interest in the critical investigation of the Bible.

Call For Papers:

The Digital Humanities in Biblical Studies, Early Jewish Studies and Early Christianity Studies research group chairs cordially invites the submission of proposals for papers and/or panel discussion topics for the forthcoming EABS/SBL meeting in Vienna. We encourage proposals covering the entire spectrum of Digital Humanities topics applied to Biblical Studies, Early Jewish Studies and Early Christianity Studies. We expect papers on:

(1) The creation and structuring of digital data representing the texts and artefacts relevant to Biblical Studies, Early Jewish Studies and Early Christianity Studies

(2) The digital analysis of said data (linguistics, stylometrics, stemmatology, network analysis, etc.), the presentation, rendering and visualisation of data and its analysis, and critical analysis of the social and cultural aspects of the digitisation of research and society in relation to the aforementioned texts and artefacts.

If you are a member of the Society of Asian Biblical Studies (SABS), Korea Old Testament Society (KOTS), or Korea New Testament Society (KNTS), but not of SBL, please click here to propose a paper.

For all other persons wanting to propose a paper, you must communicate directly with the chair of the program unit to which you want to propose. Chairs have the responsibility to make waiver requests, and their email addresses are available above. SBL provides membership and meeting registration waivers only for scholars who are outside the disciplines covered by the SBL program, specifically most aspects of archaeological, biblical, religious, and theological studies.
