The Society of Biblical Literature is the oldest and largest international scholarly membership organization in the field of biblical studies. Founded in 1880, the Society has grown to over 8,500 international members including teachers, students, religious leaders and individuals from all walks of life who share a mutual interest in the critical investigation of the Bible.
Subscription opportunities for SBL members

The Society of Biblical Literature has two subscription-based publications:

  • The Journal Of Biblical Literature (JBL) is a quarterly that promotes critical and academic biblical scholarship. The articles and reviews published by JBL reflect the range of methods, models, and interests used and pursued by working sections, groups, and seminars of the SBL.

    To subscribe, download the subscription form. Print subscriptions cost $190 for institutions and non-members and $45 for members. JBL is free online to SBL members.

  • Review of Biblical Literature (RBL) is the most comprehensive and timely review of books in the field of biblical and related studies. Reviews cover reference works, commentaries, dictionaries, multi-author volumes, biblical translations, and even reviews of a title in several languages.

    To subscribe to the print version, download the subscription form. Print subscriptions cost $100 for institutions and non-members and $35 for members. 
Members may also subscribe to one or both of these publications online. To subscribe online, click here.
