Institution:MOBIA - MUSEUM OF BIBLICAL ART
Location:New York City, New York
Position or Title:Director, Museum of Biblical Art
Start Date (estimated):Spring 2013
E-mail Submission - Attn:MOBIA search
Description:Opportunity Resources, Inc. is conducting the search for the next Director of MOBIA, the Museum of Biblical Art in New York City. MOBIA is a non-collecting museum whose mission is to explore the social, religious and historical content of art inspired by the Old and New Testament in Jewish and Christian traditions through exhibitions, publications and public and education programs. Visit www.mobia.org for more information about MOBIA and its mission. Since its opening in 2005, MOBIA has presented over 30 highly acclaimed exhibitions as wide-ranging as the Bible’s influence has been: from modern American folk art to Medieval illuminated manuscripts; from Ethiopian craftsmen to Italian Renaissance painters; and from Albrecht Durer to Marc Chagall. This spring the Museum presents “Ashé to Amen: African Americans and Biblical Imagery.” The exhibition will explore the 19th and 20th century Biblical aesthetic developed by the African Diaspora. The 2013 summer schedule includes “As Subject and Object: Contemporary Book Artists Explore Sacred Hebrew Texts.” This is an excellent opportunity for a visionary leader with at least ten years senior experience at an art museum, academic institution or other non-profit organization related to the Museum’s mission. The successful candidate must have experience managing human and financial resources and working with a Board. S/he must have excellent fundraising skills. A Master’s Degree in art history or related discipline is required; a Ph.D. is strongly preferred. More information about the position is available at www.opportunityresources.net. Address all inquiries and recommendations in confidence to the retained search consultants (e-mails are preferred): Freda Mindlin or Nancy Kaufman, Opportunity Resources Inc., 196 East 75th Street, Suite 14H, New York, NY 10021, phone: (212) 744-4409,email: search@opportunityresources.net.
