Regional Meetings The Rocky Mountain – Great Plains (March 27-28), Upper Midwest (April 4), and Pacific Northwest (May 15-17) regional meetings have been canceled. Please email regions@sbl-site.org with questions. Online Teaching SBL is aware that many of you find yourselves teaching online for the first time due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, and we are committed to addressing your most urgent needs. We have begun sending out weekly newsletters that highlight Bible Odyssey resources by our members that you can use to support your virtual classrooms. SBL is also developing a list of external online resources to assist you during this difficult transition. A link to this page will be available here. If you are familiar with any online resources that might assist your fellow members or if you would be willing to answer questions about online teaching your colleagues might have, please contact us at sblpressp@sbl-site.org. SBL will continue to monitor the situation as we work on a larger plan to address member needs in this area. “He Inscribed Upon a Stone”: Celebrating the Work of Jim Eisenbraun Eisenbrauns is a veritable household name for scholars of the Bible, archaeology, and Near Eastern studies. The retirement of Jim and Merna Eisenbraun (the reason for the plural Eisenbrauns) and the transition of the imprint to Pennsylvania State University Press is an opportunity to celebrate and pay tribute. When SBL asked authors, editors, and staff associated with Eisenbrauns if they would contribute to a volume celebrating Jim’s legacy, over one hundred responses resulted in this tribute. The volume is free to download here. International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) The IAHR invites participation in the 22nd Quinquennial World Congress at the University of Otago in New Zealand. Matt O’Reilly makes the case that the social dimension of future bodily resurrection is just as important, if not more so, than individual salvation and resurrection. Through a close reading of key texts in the letters to the Corinthians, Romans, and Philippians, O’Reilly argues that resurrection is integral to Paul’s understanding of Christian social identity. In Paul’s theological reasoning, a believer’s hope for the future depends on being identified as part of the people of God who will be resurrected.
