Sociology of the Bible (EABS)

Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: We aim to organise two sessions. In both cases, we are calling for papers. For the ‘open theme session’ papers addressing any of the themes noted in the unit description are welcome. For the specific session on Sociology and Biblical Disaster papers are invited that make use of social science (sociological) research on the nature of disasters and trauma and their impact on individual and group life to reconsider biblical narratives of natural and political disaster (the defeat in war, the destruction of Israel and Judah, and the exile) and to consider the way in which contemporary (and applied) sociology of disaster and trauma (e.g. in response to 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, or the Holocaust) might benefit from considering biblical responses. Paper proposals are now invited. Convenor: David Chalcraft (David.Chalcraft@homecall.co.uk)
