Sūrat al-Ḍuḥā (Q 93) is often regarded as reflecting details from the sīra of Muḥammad, or the biography of the qur’anic prophet. The current paper suggests that this sūrah should be understood as a re-reading of a biblical text: Psalm 22. In order to demonstrate this point, this paper will first survey the traditional interpretation of the sūrah; then compare sūrah 93 with Psalm 22. This comparison will highlight the interlinks between the two texts and their exegetical traditions, in terms of form, content and function, and highlight the dialectical correlation of Q 93 with Psalm 22.
