Applications are invited from post-doctoral scholars specializing in Medieval or (Early) Modern Judaism. The preferred area of specialization will be Judaism under Islam and Jews in Western Europe in the Middle Ages, with a secondary expertise in the development of Judaism in modern times. Applications from experts in Modern Judaism will be accepted only if a secondary expertise in Medieval Judaism can be demonstrated.

Candidates should be prepared to be involved in the development of Jewish Studies at Trinity College Dublin, within the framework of the Herzog Centre for Jewish and Near Eastern Religion and Culture of the School of Hebrew, Biblical and Theological Studies. The appointed fellow will be required to teach a one-year survey course in Medieval Judaism and should be able to teach Modern Hebrew. In addition, he or she should be ready to carry out administrative work in cooperation with the professor of Jewish Studies.

As a prerequisite for application candidates should have a finished doctoral degree in Jewish Studies, specializing in Medieval or (Early) Modern Judaism, in hand by the end of the 2002-3 academic year. The fellowship will start in October 2003 and initially be offered for one year. An extension for up to two more years will be considered after completion of the first year. The salary will be in the 28,000-30,000 Euro range per annum.
