Two SBL members, Patrick Durusau (Director of Research and Development, SBL) and Matthew Brook O'Donnell (Roehampton) presented a paper at the Extreme Markup Languages 2001 conference in Montreal, Canada.

The paper examines the problem of recording multiple hierarchies in documents (verse and sentence structure for example) and the history of proposed solutions.

Using standard XML software, Durusau and O'Donnell proposed a solution that will allow scholars to record multiple hierarchies without the use of commercial software.

The Extreme Markup Languages 2001 conference was held from August 12 - 17, 2001 in Montreal, Canada.
