Writers' Workshop
11/18/2005
1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Room: Independence II - Marriott

Pre-registration required. Research and writing unlock the twin doors to success in the academic life: success in one's career and success in the classroom. In the competitive environment of today's academy, getting published can make the difference between being just another CV in a circular file and catching the eye of a search or tenure committee. This SBL-sponsored writing workshop will focus on what the scholar needs to know to get published. Instruction will include the following: an overview of scholarly publishing, how to turn a dissertation into a book, proposal writing, finding the right publisher, and what to expect in the publishing process (from submitting a proposal, to signing a publishing agreement, to the author's responsibilities).

Patrick Alexander, Walter de Gruyter, Inc., Presiding
John Kutsko, Abingdon Press, Presiding
