This year's annual meeting was well attendedwith 7,860 registrants, despite travel fears aroused by September 11th.Over 1,000 SBL members were on the program in a dizzying 215 sessions. Feedbackfrom members so far has been positive about this year's location andorganization. SBL staff, though still recovering, are already planning for the2002 meeting in Toronto. To streamline the preparation process the Call forPapers is all online.

Highlights of the meeting include Jack Miles'talk on his new book Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God (see authorinterview in this issue) and a celebration of the completion of the publicationof the Dead Sea Scrolls. A session on the Bible and Qu'an addressed timelyissues and generated a book idea to boot.
