Description:The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an open rank tenured or tenure-track position in the field of Classical Judaism (formation of the rabbinic tradition through the medieval period.) We seek a scholar with expertise in rabbinic texts in their cultural and historical contexts and/or in the varieties of Jewish thought and religious practice. We especially encourage applicants who have familiarity with methodological and theoretical issues in the study of religion and who can contribute to our graduate program in Religious Studies. The appointment includes affiliation with the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies, an interdisciplinary unit that sponsors research and teaching about Jewish culture and history across the University. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. prior to August 31, 2012. All applicants also should have documented evidence of teaching excellence and a clearly defined research agenda. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, the supervision of graduate students, and service to the department, college, and university.
