Call For Papers: The Pseudepigrapha Section highlights in 2018 the reception and afterlife of Pseudepigrapha in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and also the theme of identity and conversion in antiquity. As a complement to our focus on the reception of pseudepigraphal traditions, the Section hosts a review of J. C. Reeves and A. Y. Reed’s Enoch from Antiquity to the Middle Ages Sources From Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Volume I (Oxford, 2018). We take up the topic of conversion along with the Jewish Christianity/ Christian Judaism section in a session on “Hybrids, Converts, and Borders of Jewish and Christian Identities” (including discussion of Jill Hicks-Keeton, Arguing with Aseneth: Gentile Access to Israel’s “Living God” in Jewish Antiquity (Oxford, 2018). With these foci in mind, the Section invites proposals, especially encouraging papers that treat the reception of pseudepigraphal traditions, including how these are mediated through art or take up the topic of identity and conversion.
