Bible and Cultural Studies

Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: April 4, 2018, will mark the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s martyrdom. Dr. King arguably had the most significant cultural impact on the United States than any other individual in the twentieth century. To mark this historic year and honor Dr. King’s life and death, the Bible and Cultural Studies seeks papers that critically engage Dr. King’s biblical hermeneutics and how Dr. King’s hermeneutics continue to influence culture today—culture broadly understood, but also specifically related to the African American experience. Papers focusing on non-violent protest/direct action and the Bible as well as peace-building and the Bible in relation to Dr. King’s biblical hermeneutics are particularly welcomed.
