Assyriology and the Bible

Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: In San Diego, the Assyriology and the Bible Section will host a special invited session on “Signs and Signifying: Mantic, Cultic, and Literary Dimensions,” as well as open sessions, for which we accept proposals on any subject related to the study of both Assyriology and the Bible. Additionally, we will be co-hosting a special joint session on “Genesis in the Mesopotamian Context,” organized with the SBL Genesis Section (to whom proposals should be submitted). We invite papers comparing and contrasting texts from the various cuneiform traditions and Genesis. In addition, we welcome papers for this special joint session on the contextual (comparative) method generally, including the history of the relationship between the disciplines from pan-Babylonianism to the present.
