Requirements for Participation

Religious World of Late Antiquity

Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: This year the Religious World of Late Antiquity will host three sessions. The first, co-sponsored with the Social History of Formative Judaism and Christianity, is an open call for graduate students who are currently writing dissertations about any dimension of late antiquity that uses a comparative methodology. We are specifically interested in papers that discuss how students are thinking with and about comparison in their research. How do you discuss comparison in your work? What sorts of evidence are you comparing? What makes for a useful comparison? Are there theories of comparison from which you draw? The session will function as a forum in which graduate students can discuss not only “what” they are comparing, but also “how” they are doing so. Presenters will be given 15 minutes and be paired with a respondent. The second, a pre-invited panel called “Experimentation in late Antiquity,” will ask what kinds of things we can describe and classify as late ancient experiments. The final session is a completely OPEN CALL for papers about any aspect of the religious world of late antiquity.
