Requirements for Participation

Second Corinthians: Pauline Theology in the Making

Program Unit Type: Seminar
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: For the 2019 Annual Meeting, the Second Corinthians: Pauline Theology in the Making Seminar is planning two sessions. (1) A panel on any section, theological idea or argument in 2 Corinthians, along the lines of the goals of the seminar. We encourage especially papers on passages which have not been treated in any of the papers presented in this seminar thus far, but contributions re-visiting themes or passages already discussed are also welcome. (2) A panel of invited speakers who will approach the question of Paul’s theology/theologising, and what we consider to be Paul’s voice, from different perspectives. These will include interpreting 2 Corinthians as a unity, presupposing that theological themes developed in the letter attest to Paul’s “historical” voice; as a compilation – where the “voice” of the compilers prevails, resulting in a divergence between Paul’s “literary” and “historical” voice; and finally, discussing the status of 2 Corinthians as the source of contemporary theological efforts, thus Paul’s “voice” heard in the present, including the legitimacy and hermeneutical issues involved in using Paul’s text as an impetus to pursue the Pauline argument to a deeper level, well beyond that of the historical Paul.
