Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: The Matthew Section plans to hold two sessions at the 2023 Annual Meeting. For the first, we are seeking proposals on Matthean Christology. Christology—the study of who Jesus is and what he did—occupies the core of New Testament theology. Amidst the increasing number of commentaries and monographs on the Gospel of Matthew, there persists the need for fresh explorations of Matthean Christology. Submissions will be evaluated based on the originality and clarity of the thesis proposed, command of current and classic scholarship (author; year), quality and clarity of supporting evidence, and the overall contribution it makes to Matthean scholarship. Please note that proposals lacking a clear thesis and explicit reference to the scholarly context of the proposed paper will not be considered. Non-western perspectives are especially encouraged. Abstracts should be less than 300 words. Our second session will feature a panel of scholars who are currently writing or have recently completed commentaries on Matthew.
