Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: The thematical session in Amsterdam, Netherlands, treats aspects of «Ritual and Warfare». We invite papers on the use and abuse of ritual preceding war, carried out in combat, and leading to an eventual termination of conflict and purification after war, as enacted in the Biblical World and Literature. We also invite papers for an open session on all aspects of ritual activities in the larger context of their cultural and religious functions in the ancient Near East and in the ancient Mediterranean, including their textual, archaeological and iconographical expressions. We invite all who are interested in participating in either session to submit their proposal.
