Major news organizations have reported that French philosopher Jacques Derrida died Friday, October 8, in Paris of cancer. Derrida's controversial analysis of language introduced deconstruction and reshaped philosophical discourse in the academy. Influential throughout the world, Derrida published extensively and taught on both sides of the Atlantic, lecturing widely and holding faculty appointments at the École Normale Supèrieure, the Sorbonne, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, University of California at Irvine, and Yale University.
