The Society of Biblical Literature stands with all victims of hate crimes and deplores the selective invocation and uncritical interpretation of biblical texts to justify anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, racism, sexism, and xenophobia.

Advisors on Disability and Access
Return to SBL Committee Page

The advisors on disabilities and access will work with members, staff, and committees to identify the various types of access issues that SBL can address in the context of its programming. The advisors have the following terms of reference:

  • Creating and updating an Accessibility Order for the International Meeting
  • Creating and updating a Template for Vetting Venues
  • Developing materials for an Accessibility Information Kiosk in the Annual Meeting registration area
  • Liaising with AAR working group on the Status of People with Disabilities in the Profession
  • Working with the Professional Development Committee to develop sessions for members with disabilities
The advisors welcome input from members on the variety of disabilities members face in preventing full access to the resources of the Society and on best practices and advocacy for the our members as they foster biblical scholarship in many professional contexts.
