Ideology, Culture, and Translation

Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers:

Theme: Translation as Intertextuality

The Ideology, Culture, and Translation Group invites papers on the theme of translation as intertextuality. Special consideration will be given to proposals that specifically engage the work of Umberto Eco. The purpose of the Ideology, Culture, and Translation Group is to explore the ways in which translation, broadly conceived, intersects with critical theory in and around the field of biblical studies. Critical engagements with the translation, translation practices, or translation history of any texts relevant to the study of Bible and Christianity (ancient and modern) are welcome. Papers are not limited to those dealing only with Bible translation.

If you are an SBL member, you must login before you can propose a paper for this or any other session. Please login by entering your SBL member number on the left in the Login box.

If you are a member of EABS but not of SBL and want to propose a paper, click here.

If you are not a member of either SBL or EABS but want to propose a paper, click here. While those covered by the SBL program are expected to gain membership, we welcome non-members from the wider region surrounding Estonia to contribute by making a proposal.

For all other persons wanting to propose a paper, you must communicate directly with the chair of the program unit to which you want to propose. Chairs have the responsibility to make waiver requests, and their email addresses are available above. SBL provides membership and meeting registration waivers only for scholars who are outside the disciplines covered by the SBL program, specifically most aspects of archaeological, biblical, religious, and theological studies.
