Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: For the inaugural sessions of the “Quran and Islamic Tradition in Comparative Perspective” unit of the ISBL at the 2010 meeting in Tartu, Estonia, we welcome both individual paper proposals and pre-arranged panel proposals organized around a specific theme. Suggested topics might include, but are not limited to, biblical themes in the Quran and Muslim literature; the relationships between Jewish, Christian, and Muslim exegetical traditions; the various discursive expressions of intercommunal exchange and relations, including both dialogue and polemic; Islam in European discourse; and Muslim cultural, religious, social, and political life in the West. For the 2010 meeting in Tartu, we especially welcome papers on Islam in Eastern Europe. Further, in anticipation of a special session at the 2011 ISBL meeting in London on "Quran and Bible in International Politics," we welcome papers for the 2010 meeting on this topic as well.
