To accommodate the size of our meeting, SBL and AAR contracted meeting space in the McCormick Place convention center. Daytime program sessions, the Exhibit Hall, and the Employment Center will be located at McCormick Place. However, the conference hotels are primarily located in the downtown "Loop" area where there are many restaurants and attractions within walking distance. The distance between the hotels and the convention center can be two to three miles, and it is not a safe walk. Shuttle buses will be running in a continuous loop between several stops in the downtown area and the convention center. To help with the commute, all evening events such as receptions and the Presidential Address will take place in the downtown hotels, primarily the Hilton Chicago and Palmer House Hilton. Beginning in 2014, meeting space and the conference hotels will be much closer together! This year, please plan time into your schedule for travel between your hotel and the convention center.

Annual Meeting 2012 is offering special conference rates at fifteen hotels in the Chicago area for the convenience of meeting attendees. The conference hotels are primarily located in the downtown "Loop" area where there are many restaurants and attractions within walking distance. The discounted rates are available to those who book a room through the AAR or SBL housing offices. Reserving a room in one of the conference hotels helps keep the meeting affordable—we receive free meeting space based on the number of hotel reservations made.

If you stay at a conference hotel, use of the shuttle buses is complimentary. If you are not staying at one of the conference hotels, you will need to purchase a shuttle pass.
