Special Session: What has Biblical Studies to do with Religious
Studies? A panel discussion with Peter Machinist, Adele Reinhartz,
Nathaniel DesRosiers, and Shawna Dolansky.
Special Session: Technology and Biblical Studies: Pitfalls &
Promises, with Mary Hess, Wabash Consultant - A
presentation of the “new culture of learning” that is emerging in the midst of
digitally mediated cultural contexts, with specific connections to biblical
studies; and a focus on ways in which digital cultures are making
teaching/learning more difficult, and at the same time opening up new
opportunities.
Special Session: Technology, Promises & Pitfalls – on the use of technology in pedagogy/online courses, publishing, & social media. Panelists TBA.
Awards: An award will be given for the best student paper read at the meeting and submitted to the Program Committee. Junior members of the SBL (doctoral candidates at the dissertation stage and those holding the Ph.D. or equivalent for 4 years or less) are eligible for nomination as Regional Scholars. Regional Scholars are nominated from each SBL region for consideration of a National SBL award, and the possibility of presenting their papers at the SBL Annual Meeting in Baltimore, November 2013. NOTE: GRAD STUDENT MEMBERS who pre-register for the conference by April 1st receive a registration discount price of $10 for the conference, and a free lunch!
